Lucasfilm and Disney have announced that Josh Trank will direct a stand-alone Star Wars movie. The studios are planning multiple stand-alone movies separate from the core Star Wars Saga.
Trank is directing a new The Fantastic Four film for 20th Century Fox. He directed the 2012 film, Chronicle, which provided a dark look at three teens who gained superpowers.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement, "We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX."
