Tom Cruise and Cobie Smulders Star in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Trailer

Tom Cruise returns as ex-MP Jack Reacher in the trailer for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. The trailer shows Reacher cornered and captured in a diner by a sheriff and his deputy who is telling Reacher that he's guilty of felony assault. This is not surprising to fans of Lee Child's excellent Jack Reacher series. He's a one man wrecking crew if he feels violence is warranted. Unfazed, Reacher tells the corrupt sheriff: "Two things are going to happen in the next 90 seconds. First that phone over there is going to ring. Second you're gonna be wearing these cuffs on your way to prison." And that is exactly what happens.
Reacher's partner for this is played by Cobie Smulders, who plays Major Turner, an officer at Reacher's old unit who has been framed for espionage when she stumbles on a deadly conspiracy. This does not sit well with Reacher, who decides to break her out of prison before she's assassinated.
The film was directed by Edward Zwick (Glory, Legends of the Fall). Robert Knepper, Aldis Hodge, Holt McCallany, and Patrick Heusinger co-star. The film hits theaters October 21, 2016. Cruise does a good job of embodying Jack Reacher and Lee Child has said many times that he's happy with the casting. Take a look:
