It Dominates Box Office With Huge $117 Million Opening

The It movie is a monster hit. The film based on Stephen King's novel featuring Pennywise had a $117 million opening. This is the best opening weekend ever for a horror movie. The scary film also had the best opening day for a horror movie at $51 million. It is the second best opening for an R-rated movie after Deadpool. It pulled off the box office record despite theaters in Florida impacted by Hurricane Irma. It has a B+ CinemaScore.
It made over $100 million more than the second place film, Home Again. The dramedy starring Reese Witherspoon was written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer. It has a B+ CinemaScore.
Home Again was followed by The Hitman's Bodyguard which has now made $64.9 million after four weeks in theaters. Annabelle: Creation came in fourth and Wind River finished 5th. Wind River was followed by Leap!, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Dunkirk, Logan Lucky and The Emoji Movie.
