Shailene Woodley Tries to Rescue Her Mother in First Insurgent Teaser Trailer

Divergent fans will be happy to see the first teaser trailer for the next film dropped today. Divergent: Insurgent stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jai Courtney, Ansel Elgort and Kate Winslet, who are all reprising their roles from the first film.

Based on the Veronica Roth's bestselling young adult dystopian series Divergent made approximately $289 million worldwide. The teaser for the second film doesn't give any plot details, but it has some incredible cgi imagery.

The second film picks up where the first film ended. Beatrice "Tris" Prior (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) has escaped after the powers that be learned she is Divergent. Her escape has precipitated a war between the four factions that make up the society in post-Apocalyptic Chicago. Tris and Four are now fugitives who are being hunted by the Erudite leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet). Tris and Four must dig deep to find out what it is that the Erudites don't want them to know about their history.

The trailer shows Tris in a dream like sequence such as she experienced in the first film. The society uses drugs to put young people in hallucinations where they must face their fears and find out which faction they should belong to. In this sequence, Tris tries to save her mother (Ashley Judd) from an impossible situation: being trapped in a house that's on fire and which is flying through the air. Clearly, Tris is trying to face her own guilt and the sadness at losing her mother.

Octavia Spencer, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim and Naomi Watts co-star. The film was directed by Robert Schwentke. The screenplay was written by Akiva Goldsman and Brian Duffield. The film will be released on March 21, 2014.
