Incredibles 2 Dominates Weekend Box office

Incredibles 2 dominated the box office this weekend with a monster $180 million opening. The sequel arrived in theaters 14 years after the original box office hit in 2004. The opening easily beat the previous record for an opening weekend by animated film. The previous record was $135 million by Finding Dory.
Incredibles 2 has an A+ CinemaScore. It was written and directed by Brad Bird. It averaged $40,816 per theater.
Ocean's 8 slipped to second place after winning the box office last weekend. It was followed by Tag, which opened with $14.6 million. Tag, starring Ed Helms, Jeremy Renner and Jam, follows a group of men who play tag every May. The comedy has a B+ CinemaScore.
Tag was followed by Solo, Deadpool 2, Hereditary and Superfly. Superfly opened with $14.6 million and a $4,317 per theater. The crime drama stars Trevor Jackson and is directed by Director X. It is a remake of the 1972 blaxploitation film. It has a B+ CinemaScore.
The Gotti film starring John Travolta as John Gotti had a weak opening with $1.68 million in 503 theaters for a $3,320 theaters.
Incredibles 2 should remain atop the box office for at least another week. The new films arriving this weekend include Scario: Day of the Soldado, Uncle Drew, Three Identical Strangers and Leave No Trace.
