Hugh Jackman is Blackbeard in Pan Teaser Trailer

Posted on November 26, 2014

Hugh Jackman drove us crazy with his bearded and bald selfies taken on the set of Pan. Now we finally get a look at Jackman and the rest of the cast in the first teaser trailer for Pan, a film that tells the backstory of Peter Pan.

The trailer opens with scenes of young Peter (Levi Miller), who is one of many children left as orphans after World War II in London. The Lambeth Home for Boys is a dismal place, and Peter gets in trouble for his dislike of authority. Peter manages to get ahold of his file and sneak a look at the copy of a letter from his mother Mary (Amanda Seyfried) who had to leave him at the orphanage. His mother promised they would see each other again in this world -- or another.

The letter reads, "'My dearest Peter, I long for the day that I can come back to you and explain everything. You are extraordinary, more than you can imagine. I promise that you will see me again in this world or another." The mention of another world stays with Peter. One night Peter is kidnapped by pirates in a flying ship who take him to Neverland which is ruled by the pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman).

Blackbeard rules over the land with an iron fist. The Lost Boys look pretty raggedy and not terribly well-fed. There are also fairies and mermaids, who are under Blackbeard's rule. Pan meets James Hook (Garret Hedlund), Princess Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara), The Dictator (Adeel Akhtar) and a beautiful mermaid (Cara Delvigne). He will eventually discover his destiny to free Neverland and its magical inhabitants.

The live action film was directed by Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice). The screenplay was written by Jason Fuchs. The supporting cast includes Taejoo Na, Nonso Anozie, Kathy Burke, Kurt Egyiawan, Lewis MacDougall, Leni Zieglmeier, and Jack Charles. The film is set for release on July 17, 2015. Take a look:
