Hugh Grant Takes Lead Role in The Pirates! Band of Misfits

Hugh Grant takes the lead in his first animated role as the voice of the bearded Pirate Captain in The Pirates! Band of Misfits. The stop-motion, 3D, animated film produced by Aardman Animations for Sony Pictures Animation, which will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, will be released March 30, 2012 in North America.

As the Pirate Captain, Hugh Grant leads a rag-tag crew (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen) and aims to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. The quest takes the misfits from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. The adventures include a battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and a partnership with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant).
