Hotel Transylvania 2 Tops Weekend Box Office

Hotel Transylvania 2 won the box office this weekend. It made $47.5 million and had a strong per theater average of over $12,600. (See the trailer below). This opening was bigger than the original which had a $42.5 million opening in 2012. The animated film features the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez and Kevin James. It has an A- CinemaScore.
Hotel Transylvania 2 finished well ahead of The Intern, which opened in second and made $18 million. The comedy stars Robert DeNiro, Anne Hathaway and Rene Russo. The Intern also had an A- CinemaScore but it only managed $5,500 per theater.
The Intern was followed by Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, which made $14 million during its second weekend in theaters. The film had now made $51 million after two weekends in theaters. Everest went to a wide release during its second weekend in theaters and made $13 million and finished fourth.
Everest was followed by Black Mass, The Visit, The Perfect Guy and War Room. The horror cannibal film The Green Inferno was unable to scare up many moviegoers. It made just $3.5 million in about 1,500 theaters during its opening weekend. It has a low C- CinemaScore.
