Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara Star in Hot Pursuit Trailer

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara are hilarious together in the first trailer for the action comedy Hot Pursuit. Reese plays a by the book police officer who must get a drug lord's wife (Vergara) to testify against the mob. Bad guys want them dead and they end up on the run, with no one to help them.

We had forgotten how adept at comedy Reese Witherspoon is. Legally Blonde made her a star and it's because she has excellent comedic timing. But she's also a serious actress. She has one Oscar on her shelf from her turn as Loretta Lynn in Walk the Line, and is nominated for Best Actress for her role as Cheryl Strayed in Wild.

Casting her and Sofia in a road trip comedy was a brilliant idea. They have great chemistry and are truly funny to watch. The trailer is very funny as the two women try to escape gunmen and crooked cops who both want them dead. Sofia's character judges people by the underwear they choose and Reese's giant granny panties horrify her. But the erroneous news casts about Reese's ever-shrinking height and Sofia's age make her even madder.

Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) directed the comedy which was written by New Girl's David Feeney, Dana Fox (What Happens in Vegas) and Ben & Kate writers John Quaintance and Katharine Silberman. The film will be released on May 8th, which is Mother's Day weekend. Take a look:
