Britney Spears: Hold it Against Me Video

Posted on February 18, 2011

Britney Spears debuted her new song "Hold it Against Me" which is the lead single from her upcoming album Femme Fatale. The video was directed by Jonas Akerlund, who also worked on the "Telephone" video starring Lady Gaga and Beyonce. The video has a futuristic, cyberpunk vibe to it that we really like and which is quite new for Britney. The theme appears to be the re-engineering of Britney herself for the future.

She's standing in a lab type space which is surrounded with Sony video screens (yes there are lots of product placements, but they work with the theme) showing scenes from her past life. From the adorable young Britney of singing "Hit Me Baby, One More Time" to more recent events, her past is on display and used to create the new Britney. Of course, the themes of where does Britney end and the machine take over are an overarching presence which reminds us that the "machine" has literally controlled Britney's life since she was a young Disney star.

Another new thing for Britney is a very cool fight sequence in which she battles herself -- in high heels. She's definitely got the moves down for an action sequence. In one scene she has tubes instead of fingers as she's being rebuilt by the computer. There are a lot of other pop culture references, such as the classic Rocky Horror disembodied red lips, and it all comes together quite nicely. We love Cyberpunk Britney. More, please. Take a look:
