Hillary Clinton is Interviewed by Zach Galifianakis on Between Two Ferns

Posted on September 22, 2016

Barack Obama was the first major politician to appear on Zach Galifianakis' hilarious interview show Between Two Ferns. The president did the show to get the word out to young Americans about sign ups for Obamacare and it worked -- the video has been viewed 50 million times. The show features Zach in character as a real jerk who continuously insults his guests. Some actors are better than others at playing along and rolling with the impromptu roast.

So it was a bit of a surprise when when Hillary Clinton did the show just two months from the election. She was hilariously deadpan and easily handled Zach's zingers. And he got plenty of zingers in. His questions were really out of bounds, such as "Are you excited to be the first girl president?" He also asked her, "As Secretary how many words a minute can you type? How does President Obama like his coffee? Like himself...weak?"

Then things got really funny when he demanded she tell him, "What happens if you become pregnant? Are we going to be stuck with Tim Kaine for nine months? How does this work?" Hillary smiled and said, "I could send you some pamphlets that might help you understand."

He wanted to know if she was for or against the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal, asking "Are you down with TPP?" When she told him she was not down with TPP, he informed her she was supposed to say yes and quote the rap lyrics, "You know me, " to which she replied, "Don't tell me what to say." "Fine, lose," he snapped at her.

Zach was in fine form wondering if she should be more racist since "it has worked so well for Donald Trump." He wanted to know who made her pants suits describing her look as "Librarian from Outer Space." Then, he did the rudest thing possible and played a "word from our sponsor." Of course it was a Donald Trump ad. His explanation for why he ran the ad is crude - and hilarious.

But the parting zinger was the best. While she was in the middle of her explaining her priorities when she is president, he interrupted to tell her, "We should stay in touch. What's the best way to stay in touch, email?" Hillary was very funny, her facial expressions are priceless. And she was a really good sport.

Scott Aukerman, the director of the show, told The Daily Beast that the interview was unscripted and improvised and that he was surprised that she didn't have any preconditions about the subject matter. He also said they had to cut some very funny takes because she laughed so hard when she first heard some of Zach's questions. But she quickly learned to keep a straight face, no matter what insane thing came out of his mouth next. Will Trump be next to sit between the ferns? Take a look:
