Tom Hiddleston Stars in High Rise Trailer

The first trailer for Ben Wheatley's adaptation of the novel High Rise has landed and it's quite intriguing. The 1975 novel by J.G. Ballard revolves around a super modern multi-use high rise building which contains apartments, stores, a gym, and pretty much everything you would ever want. In fact, some people begin to feel there is no reason to ever leave.
Tom Hiddleston stars as Dr. Robert Laing, a new tenant of the building. Dr. Laing is not fond of social interaction, but eventually gets drawn into the drama of the building and its varied residents. He finds himself competing for social position and getting sucked into the building's odd social life. When the building begins to have maintenance issues -- power outages and a stuck elevator, for example -- things deteriorate quickly.
Soon it's every tenant for himself and the outside world ceases to exist. There is a definite Lord of the Flies vibe, only with well-dressed adults who should know better. In the book, one of the great mysteries is why the tenants don't just leave the building when things get weird -- and violent. In the movie, we have no idea how director Ben Wheatly will handle that little issue. But we're quite looking forward to the film. Take a look:
