Happy Death Day Wins Weekend Box Office

Happy Death Day topped the box office this weekend. The horror film starring Jessica Rothe is about an unlucky young woman who keeps living her own murder over and over. She has to figure out who her killer is. The Groundhog Day inspired film made $26.5 million and had an $8,415 per theater average. Happy Death Day has a B+ CinemaScore.
Blade Runner 2049 came in second and made $15.1 million. It has underperformed in U.S. theaters so far. Blade Runner was followed by The Foreigner which opened with $12.8 million. The film stars Jackie Chan, Katie Leung, Rufus Jones and Pierce Brosnan. It has a A- CinemaScore.
The Foreigner was followed by It, which added $6 million more to bring its gross to nearly $315 million after six weekends in theaters. It was followed by American Made, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Lego Ninjago Movie and My Little Pony: The Movie.
