Hansel and Gretel Wins Weekend Box Office

Posted on January 27, 2013

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters won this weekend's fairly weak box office with a $19 million take. It was not a great debut for this weekend's other opening films, Parker and Movie 43.

Hansel and Gretel was followed by Mama, which made $12.9 million in its second weekend in theatres. Silver Linings Playbook finished third and made $10 million as it continues to linger in the top ten thanks to award buzz. Zero Dark Thirty finished fourth and made $9.8 million. Parker made just $7 million during its opening. Despite the weak opening, Parker will likely do well when it arrives on DVD/Blu-ray.

Parker was followed by Django Unchained and Movie 43. Movie 43 bombed and made just $5 million in 2,023 theaters. The star-studded film had a terrible score on Rotten Tomatoes with only a 5% fresh ratting. Deadline says the film had a "D" CinemaScore.
