Get Out Wins Weekend Box Office With $30.5 Million Opening

Get Out won the box office this weekend with a $30.5 million opening. It also had a strong per theater average of $10,976. The horror film stars Daniel Kaluuya as a young African-American man who visits the mysterious estate of his girlfriend (Allison Williams). It has an A- CinemaScore.
Get Out was followed by The Lego Batman Movie which fell to second after winning the box office for two consecutive weekends. Lego Batman has amassed $133 million after three weekends in theaters. Lego Batman was followed by John Wick: Chapter Two, which added $9 million during its third weekend in theaters.
John Wick was followed by The Great Wall, Fifty Shades Darker, Fist Fight, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Split and Lion. Two other films opening wide this weekend were major bombs. Rock Dog made just $3.7 million and opening in 11th place. The animated film features the voices of Luke Wilson, Eddie Izzard and J.K. Simmons. Collide performed even worse and opened with just $1.5 million in 2,045 theaters for a very low $753 per theater average. The thriller stars Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones and Anthony Hopkins.
