Friday the 13th Slays the Competition
Posted on February 15, 2009
The decidedly unromantic remake of an old slasher movie won the Valentine weekened box office. The Friday the 13th horror film received a boost by opening on Friday the 13th. Reuters asks, "What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than to watch college kids get slaughtered in a remake of Friday the 13th?"
He's Just Not That Into You had a strong second week bringing in nearly $20 million. It was followed by the kidnap thriller, Taken. Sadly, Shopaholic, a comedy starring Isla Fisher, only opened in fourth place. Coraline, a film based on Neil Gaiman's children's book held strong with a fifth place finish. Paul Blart: Mall Cop is still hanging around. The surprise hit came in 6th and has now made over $110 million.
