Brie Larson and Armie Hammer Fight For Their Lives in First Trailer for Free Fire

The trailer for Free Fire screened at the Toronto Film Festival last night to a great response. Ben Wheatley (Highrise) directed and co-wrote the action film which is set in Boston in 1978. The film centers around a weapons deal gone horribly wrong.

Brie Larson stars as Justine, who has brokered a weapons deal between a weapons dealer and an IRA gang. When the guns are not what the buyers were expected to receive, shots are fired and the deal goes south very quickly. The film takes place in a big, deserted warehouse. After the shooting starts, the meeting becomes a deadly escape and evade exercise. It's not your usual action film, that's for sure. For one thing, it looks like everyone gets shot at least once. No one seems to be able to magically evade gunfire, so that's different.

The film is also a dark comedy with plenty of humor alongside the violence. The trailer is set to "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent which works quite well in the context. The cast is excellent. Sharlto Copley, sporting some truly impressive 70s facial hair, leads one gang. A nearly unrecognizable Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Noah Taylor, Sam Riley, Jack Reynor and Michael Smiley also star.
