Focus Wins Weekend Box Office

Focus won the box office this weekend. The crime drama starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie needed just $19 million to weekend. It had a B Cinemascore. Fifty Shades of Grey could have won three weekend in a row had it not quickly sank after its opening weekend.

Focus was followed by Kingsman: The Secret Service, which made $11.8 million, and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, which made $11.2 million. Fifty Shades of Grey finished fourth and made $10.9 million to bring its box office gross to $148 million.

The Lazarus Effect opened in fifth place. The horror movie is about a group of medical students who find a way to bring the dead back to life. Olivia Wilde plays one of the medical students. She dies and is brought back to life by the group but she is not the same. The film made $10.6 million in 2,666 theaters for a $3,976 per theater average. The film only had a C- Cinemascore.

The Lazarus Effect was followed by McFarland, USA, American Sniper, The DUFF and Still Alice. You can view the complete box office chart for the weekend here. Chappie, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Unfinished Business arrive in theaters this coming weekend. Focus is not expected to hold onto the box office next weekend.
