Finding Dory Wins Box Office for Second Straight Weekend

Finding Dory fended off Independence Day: Resurgence to win the box office for the second straight weekend. It made $73 million and has already made $286 million after just two weekends in theaters.

Independence Day: Resurgence had a strong $41.6 million opening but still fell short of the first film's $50 million opening in 1996. Resurgence has a B CinemaScore. Indepence Day was followed by Central Intelligence, which made $18.3 million during its second weekend in theaters.

The Shallows open in fourth and made $16.7 million. It has already nearly made back its $17 million budget after its first weekend. The shark thriller starring Blake Lively has good reviews. It also has an B+ CinemaScore.

The Shallows was followed by Free State of Jones, which stars Matthew McConaughey as Newton Knight. Knight was a Mississippi farmer who led a revolt against the Confederacy. The film opened with $7.8 million. It has an A- CinemaScore. Free State was followed by The Conjuring 2, Now You See M2 and X-Men: Apocalypse.

Captain America: Civil War has now passed the $400 million mark. It has made $403 million after 8 weeks in theaters. You can find the complete weekend box office report here.
