Fast Five Dominates Box Office With $83 Million Weekend

Fast Five kicked off the summer movies with a huge $83 million weekend. The film added the star power of Dwayne Johnson to the fifth film in the series, which also stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Rio finished second and added $14 million to its growing box office tally, which has now passed the $100 million mark. Madea's Big Happy Family finished third in its second weekend in theaters and brought in $10 million. Water for Elephants made $9 million and finished fourth in its second week in theaters.
Two new films, Prom and Hoodwinked Too!, finished fifth and sixth. Both did not meet expectations. Prom made a meager $5 million despite appearing in over 2,700 theaters. Hoodwinked Too made a little over $4 million. You can see the complete box office chart here.
