Ender's Game won the box office this weekend. The film, based on the novel by Orson Scott Card, had a strong $27 million opening. Despite the strong opening, the Hollywood Reporter says analysts don't expect the film to produce a franchise. The film's stars include Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley and Asa Butterfield.

Ender's Game was followed by Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa which made another $20 million during its second week in theaters. Last Vegas, a comedy starring Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline, performed well and opened with over $16 million. The film had its R rating overturned in August, which likely helped the box office. Last Vegas was followed by the animated film Free Birds made $15 million in finished forth.

Gravity finished fifth and has crossed the $200 million mark. It is the ninth film to make over $200 million in U.S. theaters this year. Gravity was followed by 12 Years a Slave, Cloud With a Chance of Meatballs 2, The Counselor, Carrie and Escape Plan. You can see the complete weekend box office report here.
