Dumb and Dumber To Wins Weekend Box Office

Dumb and Dumber To had a strong $38 million opening to win the box office this weekend. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels both returned for the sequel 20 years after the original. The comedy fended off challenges from Big Hero 6 and Interstellar for the box office win.
Big Hero 6 had a strong second weekend in theaters. It made another $36 million to bring its box office gross to $111 million. Interstellar also had a strong second weekend. It made $29 million to bring its total gross to just under $100 million at $97.8 million.
The other wide release opening this weekend was Beyond the Lights starring actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a star singer. The film opened in fourth and made $6.5 million. It had a low per theater average of $3,633. Beyond the Lights was followed by Gone Girl which has now passed the $150 million mark in the U.S.
Gone Girl was followed by St. Vincent, Fury, Nightcrawler and Ouija. You can see the complete box office chart here.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 arrives in theaters this weekend. It will be interesting to see if can repeat the success of the previous film, which opened with a monster $158 million weekend and went on to make over $424 million in the U.S. alone.
