Trailer for Dracula Untold Starring Luke Evans

Posted on September 6, 2014

Dracula gets a very interesting origin story in the film Dracula Untold which stars Luke Evans in the lead. Luke Evans, who plays Bard the Bowman in the upcoming The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, stars as Vlad Tepes, later known as Dracula.

In the 15th century, Vlad is facing a terrible threat of invasion by the Ottoman Empire. Sultan Mehmed II (Dominic Cooper) and his fearsome army is poised to utterly destroy Vlad's people. He meets a mysterious entity (played by Charles Dance, most recently of Game of Thrones) who offers him a way to save his country. The evil entity offers Vlad strength and power enough to defeat an army. Vlad does ask the price of this gift, but accepts it even when he doesn't realize the cost to his soul of the deal he's struck.

The film seems to take a very different approach to the character of Dracula. A honorable man who has known tragedy, he makes a terrible bargain to save his people. He's more of an antihero than a villain. His bloodlust only manifests slowly, but when it hits it's like a severe drug addiction. Evans is compelling and the story looks quite fascinating.

Sarah Gadon, Samantha Barks, Charlie Cox and Noah Huntley co-star. Gary Shore makes his feature film directing debut. The film will hit theaters on October 17, 2014. Take a look:
