Don't Breathe Tops Weekend Box Office

Jane Levy and Don't Breathe won the box office this weekend. The horror film made $26.1 million to win the weekend. It has a B+ CinemaScore. Jane Levy and horror are a good mix for box office wins. She also starred in the Evil Dead remake which topped the box office in April 2013.

Don't Breathe was followed by Suicide Squad which added another $12 million during its fourth weekend in theaters. The star studded film featuring DC Comics villains is closing in on the $300 million mark. Suicide Squad was followed by the animated films Kubo and the Two Strings and Sausage Party.

Mechanic: Resurrection opened in fifth. It had a weaker opening than anticipated. It made $7.5 million in 2,258 theaters for a $3,322 per theater average. The film stars Jason Statham, Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones. It has a B+ CinemaScore.

Mechanic: Resurrection was followed by Pete's Dragon, War Dogs, Bad Moms, Jason Bourne and Ben-Hur. You can find the box office report for the weekend here.

The opening films for next weekend include Cafe Society, Morgan, Brotherhood and The 9th Life of Louis Drax. None of the are major tent poles but Don't Breathe is still not likely to repeat.
