Domestic Box Office for The Avengers Passes $600 Million

The Avengers movie has now made over $600 million in the U.S. alone. Box Office Mojo reports that it took 54 days for The Avengers to reach the $600 million milestone, which is about a week longer than it took Avatar.
Only two movies have made more in the U.S. - Avatar and Titanic. Both films were directed by James Cameron. The Avengers will get close to the Titanic's $658 million lifetime gross, but is not expected overtake it. You can view the chart for the All Time Domestic Box Office Grosses here.
The highly entertaining film, directed by Joss Whedon, has made over $1.43 billion when the foreign box office is included. Fans are hoping Whedon will return to direct the sequel.
