Dolphin Tale Wins Weekend Box Office
Posted on October 2, 2011
Dolphin Tale, an inspirational movie about an injured dolphin given a prosthetic tail, won the weekend box office this weekend. It climbed from the #2 position last week and only lost 25% of its audience from the weekend before.
Dolphin Tale made $14.2 million to bring its total box office gross to $37.5 million. Brad Pitt's Moneyball did well in its second weekend in theaters and made $12.5 million. The 3D version of The Lion King continues to do better than expected during its return to theaters. It finished third and took in $11 million to bring its box office total to over $79 million.
None of this weekend's new movies finished in the top three. 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, finished fourth and made $8.8 million. It was followed by Courageous and the horror film, Dream House. The R-rated comedy, What's Your Number, starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans, performed below expectations and opened with just $5.6 million in over 3,000 theaters.
