Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman Walk the Red Carpet for the Doctor Who Premiere in NYC

Posted on August 15, 2014

Stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, along with showrunner Steven Moffat walked the red carpet at the Doctor Who Premiere Fan Screening held at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City last night.

Moffat was a bit grumpy on the red carpet when a reporter asked him if the new doctor was too old for kids to like. Moffat noted that Santa is old but kids still love him. He said having an older doctor won't affect the show's young fan base because, "to kids, Matt Smith was ancient... we're all ancient to them." He said that having a new doctor that's a few years older won't hurt the show at all.

Peter and Jenna were asked about the relationship between the Doctor and Clara in the upcoming season and how it differs from the relationship between the characters in prior seasons. Peter said that they have a more "spiky" relationship. Jenna agreed and explained, "It's complicated, it's hard. They are deeply addicted and bound to each other despite how much they annoy each other." Peter noted that Clara is the only person who can tell the Doctor what to do. They are bound to each other despite how much they annoy each other. He says the Doctor is deeply bonded to her and although she drives him crazy sometimes he can't stop inviting her to travel with him.

Peter said that he grew up watching Doctor Who, but he always saw it as a very British show. To go on a world tour and see the fan response has been amazing. After the red carpet, the first episode premiered. So what was the reaction to the first episode? Neil Gaiman tweeted, "Watched 'Deep Breath,' the first new Doctor Who Episode tonight. Peter Capaldi is glorious as the 12th, not-cuddly Doctor. An utter delight."

We can't wait for the new season. We have a feeling that Capaldi will do a fantastic job. The show debuts in the U.S. on BBC America on August 23rd at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 pm Central time. Take a look:
