Despicable Me 2 Wins Box Office for Second Consecutive Weekend

Despicable Me 2 won the box office for its second consecutive weekend. The animated comedy defeated two big new films in the process: Grown Ups 2 and Pacific Rim. Despicable Me 2 made $44.8 million during its second weekend in theaters to bring its domestic gross to $229 million. Grown Ups 2 was still a big hit with its $42.5 million take. Pacific Rim came up a little short with its $38.3 debut. It had a budget over twice that of Grown Ups 2.
The Heat had a strong third showing in theaters. It made $14 million over the weekend to push its box office to $112 million. The Heat was followed by The Lone Ranger, Monsters University and World War Z.
