The Dark Knight Rises Wins Box Office for Second Straight Weekend
Posted on July 30, 2012
The Dark Knight Rises easily won the box office during its second weekend in theaters. The film made another $62 million to bring its total gross to over $287 million. This follow's the Dark Night setting a 2D box office record.
The Dark Knight Rises is already the third top grossing film in the U.S. for the year according to the Yearly Box Office chart on Box Office Mojo. It should not have much trouble catching up to The Hunger Games to take the #2 spot.
The Dark Knight Rises was followed by Ice Age: Continental Drift, which made another $13.3 million during its third weekend in theaters. The Watch, which was renamed from Neighborhood Watch following the killing of Trayvon Martin, did not do well. It made under $13 million during its opening weekend despite appearing in 3,168 theaters. Step Up Revolution, which opened in fourth, had a slightly better per theater average, but still underperformed with $11.7 million.
Step Up Revolution was followed by Ted, The Amazing Spider-Man, Brave, Magic Mike and Savages. You can see the complete box office report here.
