Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion Raise Over $2 Million for Con Man on Indiegogo

Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion have quickly raised over $2 million for a new series called Con Man on Indiegogo. The comedy series is written by Tudyk. Tudyk and Fillion play the stars of a science fiction series, Spectrum, that was cancelled too early by a major network. Fillion's character, Jack Moore, has gone on to become a major star while Tudyk's character, Wray Nerely, travels the convention circuit.

The initial goal of the campaign was $425,000. Con Man quickly surpassed that amount and has moved on to bigger goals. The crowdfunding campaign set a record on Indiegogo for raising $1 million in less than 24 hours. The Wrap reports that Con Man is now the highest funded web series across all crowdfunding platforms. The campaign still has 24 days left so it will be interesting to see just how high it will go.

The strong success of the campaign is not a surprise given that Tudyk and Fillion are both very likeable actors. They both starred in Joss Whedon's Firefly series which was cancelled way too soon by Fox. With Tudyk writing the script fans also know that the series will be highly entertaining. The concept behind Con Man which allows the series to explore some of the weird things that happen at science fiction conventions is a great one. It is no coincidence that Tudyk and Fillion play a pilot and captain in Spectrum, the show within Con Man. They were also the pilot and captain of Serenity on Firefly.

The growing amount of money the series is raising on Indiegogo enables Tudyk to add new goals. One of the recently added goals is to actually make the Spectrum comic book. The campaign needs to get to $2,250,000 to make that happen which seems very likely with the rate the project is being funded by fans. The show has also raised enough money to produce 12 episodes. The initial goal for $425,000 was to make 3 episodes.

CBS News reports that filming for Con Man will begin in July. There will be twelve 10-12 minute episodes. With the money they have raised they will be able to includes scenes on the Spectrum spaceship and add more special effects. Here is the initial pitch video for Con Man on Indiegogo:
