Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Easily Wins Weekend Box Office

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 won the weekend box office. The animated film made $34 million in its opening weekend. It was followed by Prisoners, which made about $11 million more during its second week in theaters. Rush finished third and made $10 million.

Rush was followed by the comedy, Baggage Claim, starring Paula Patton, which opened in fourth and made $9 million. Next came Don Jon, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson. The film was also written and directed by Levitt. It made $8.7 million and opening in fifth.

The horror film Insidious Chapter 2 fell to sixth in its third weekend in theaters and added $6.5 million. Insidious was followed by The Family, Instructions Not Included and We're the Millers. The complete box office report can be found here.
