Chris Martin and James Corden do Carpool Karaoke

Posted on February 3, 2016

James Corden's Carpool Karaoke segments are always great. The latest segment was no exception. Coldplay front man Chris Martin joined James for a singing and driving session that was surprisingly funny and entertaining. Who knew Chris Martin was so funny?

James is enjoying a drive on his day off, singing in the car, when he sees Chris by the side of the road with a sign asking for a ride to the Super Bowl. Chris is playing the Super Bowl halftime with Coldplay and asked James for a ride. A reluctant James agrees and Chris puts his guitar in the back seat and enthusiastically agrees that music is exactly what's needed for their impromptu road trip.

They duo star out singing two Coldplay hits: the new "Adventure of a Lifetime" and the classic hit "Yellow" and "Viva La Vida." Chris stopped the song to ask James what lyrics he was singing. Corden sang "a few cherished bells are ringing" instead of "I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing." Chris kindly tells him, "That's what I sing, but you can sing whatever you like."

James quizzed Chris on his knowledge of American football. Chris explained the rules of the game as such: "Nine teams, two balls, wait...so the pitcher gets from ....he tees off and it lands and then it's 15 love. And if it gets in the basket..."

The duo hit the Pacific Coast Highway north, passing farmland. Chris pulled out a map and they stopped for snacks and American rolos and some San Francisco 49ers hats which they wore for the rest of the trip. Chris revealed that he looks up to Bruce Springsteen, U2, and Bruno Mars. But he looked disturbed when James said no one would ever do as well at the Super Bowl as Bruno Mars did. Chris then pulled out a keyboard and they did an impromptu duet of David Bowie's "Heroes." Chris also showed off his Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger impersonations, which were pretty good.

Chris discussed cool band names and revealed that Coldplay was actually called Starfish for one concert. He said that he thinks one word names are the best, like Adele or Taylor. He joked that he hoped one day everyone would call Coldplay "Cold." James informed him that would never, ever happen.

After stopping for some sugar filled lemonade they decided to stop for the night at the The Palace Inn Motel. James grumped at Chris for choosing the bigger bed. They both wore pajamas and nightcaps. They snuggled up and kept singing. The next morning their car was gone -- it was stolen. So they switched to a bicycle built for two -- and kept on singing. Take a look:
