Captain America: The Winter Soldier Wins Box Office for Third Consecutive Weekend
Posted on April 20, 2014
Captain America: The Winter Soldier has won the box office for the third consecutive weekend. The film made another $26.6 million to bring its total gross to over $201 million. The film could continue its run for a fourth week if it can beat The Other Woman and The Quite Ones, which open this coming weekend.
Even if it beats these films, the Winter Soldier's streak won't get past four. The Amazing Spider-Man 2, another Marvel film (this time with Sony), opens May 2nd, which will definitely end the Captain's streak.
Rio 2 finished second and made $22.5 million for a strong second weekend in theaters. It was followed by Heaven is for Real, which did very well and made $21.5 million in 2,417 theaters. The film is based on the book about Colton, the 4-year-old son of a Nebraska pastor who says he experienced Heaven during an emergency appendectomy.
Transcendence, a science fiction starring Johnny Depp, underperformed in theaters. It opened in fourth and made $11.1 million in 3,455 theaters for a low $3,939 per theater average. Transcendence was followed by A Haunted House 2, which made $9.1 million.
Haunted House 2 was followed by Draft Day, Divergent, Oculus, Noah and God's Not Dead. You can view the complete box office report here.
