Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka to Write Baywatch Screenplay
Posted on March 31, 2010
The Hollywood Reporter says a Baywatch movie is slated for a summer 2011 release. The Hollywood Reporter also says screenwriters Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka have been hired to write the screenplay.
The Break-Up co-writer Jeremy Garelick was brought on to rewrite and direct in July. The hiring of Gatewood and Tanaka further points to a largely comedic take on the property, since the pair has their original comedy The Sitter set up at Fox with David Gordon Green directing and Jonah Hill starring. The original creators of the show are producers of the upcoming film. It doesn't sound real exciting right now but it could get more interesting once we find out who they decide to cast for the Baywatch movie. We do know that Pamela Anderson is expected to make a cameo in the film.Additionally, insiders place the Baywatch adaptation in the context of a TV revamp like Charlie's Angels rather than Starsky and Hutch, which indicates that female-driven action is also on the menu.
