Bourne Legacy Wins Weekend Box Office
Posted on August 13, 2012
The Bourne Legacy won the weekend box office, ending The Dark Knight Rises three consecutive weekends at number one. The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner, made $40.2 million over the weekend. The large box office is a clear indication there is still a lot of interest in the Bourne series. The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, made $27.4 million. Deadline.com says the film overperformed. It was likely helped by the hilarious trailer and the 10-week tour Ferrell and Galifianakis went on to promote the film.
The Dark Knight Rises made another $19.5 million over the weekend to bring its total gross to $390 million. Hope Springs, starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carrell, made $15.6 million over the weekend. The comedy has made over $20 million since opening on Wednesday. Hope Springs was followed by Diary of a Wimpy Kids: Dog Days, Total Recall (2012), Ice Age: Continental Drift, Ted and Step Up Revolution.
