Tyler Perry's Boo 2 Tops Weekend Box Office

Tyler Perry has the top film in theaters this weekend. Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween made $21.7 million and averaged $9,066 per theater. Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovely are two of the successful film's stars along with Perry. This is the second Madea Halloween film as the title suggests. It has an A- CinemaScore.

Boo 2 easily defeated Geostorm, which opened in second. Geostorm - an apocalyptic thriller involving failing weather satellites - made $13.3 million for a modest $4,097 per theater average. It did not have a great debut but performed much but than three other box office debuts this weekend. Geostorm is directed by Dean Devlin and stars Gerard Butler. It has a B- CinemaScore.

Geostorm was followed by Happy Death Day and Blade Runner 2049. Both films fell sharply from the previous weekend. Only the Brave opened in fifth and made $6 million in 2,577 theaters for a low $2,332 per theater average. It is based on a true story about a group of firefighters known as the Granite Mountain Hotshots. It has a great A CinemaScore.

Two other films had weak openings this weekend - The Snowman and Same Kind of Different as Me. The Snowman is a thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson. It made just $3.4 million in 1,812 theaters for a very low $1,900 per theater opening average. It also has a D for its CinemaScore grade. Same Kind of Different as Me starring Renee Zellweger, had a very similar per theater average. It opened in twelfth place.
