Bob Dylan Wants to Stop Factory Girl
Posted on December 14, 2006
Bob Dylan is so furious about his portrayal in the upcoming film Factory Girl which stars Sienna Miller that he threatening to get an injunction to stop the release of the film. Apparently, the film portrays Dylan as being responsible for Edie Sedgewick's death, which he says he certainly was not.
The film contain a character called Danny Quinn, said to a composite of Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger. That would be quite a successful, yet odd performer. Dylan and his attorney, Orin Snyder, think the character is not so much a composite and instead is quite similar to Bob Dylan himself.
Hollywood.com reports that Snyder has warned the filmmakers, "You appear to be laboring under the misunderstanding that merely changing the name of a character or making him a purported fictional composite will immunize you from suit. That is not so. Even though Mr. Dylan's name is not used, the portrayal remains both defamatory and a violation of Mr. Dylan's right of publicity. Until we are given an opportunity to view the film, we hereby demand that all distribution and screenings... immediately be ceased."
Will Bob Dylan get the film stopped? Will Hayden Christenson absolutely destroy the good name of Bob Dylan with his severe lack of acting skills? And does Sienna Miller have an ounce of talent, other than the obvious one of looking most excellent in her black, stretchy pants? All will no doubt be revealed in time.
