Blade Runner 2049 Tops Box Office With $31 Million Opening

Blade Runner 2049 was the top film in theaters this weekend. It opened with $31.5 million. The film stars Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas. It has an A- CinemaScore. This was less than expected for the science fiction sequel but it performed better overseas where it made $50 million according to Deadline.

Blade Runner 2049 was followed by The Mountain Between Us, a drama tha that follows two strangers stranded on a mountain after a plane crash. It also has an A- CinemaScore. It made $10.1 million and had an average of $3,271 per theater.

It came in third and added $9.6 million to huge box office that has already passed $300 million. It has now made over $600 million worldwide. The success of It should enable it to linger in the top ten through Halloween.

My Little Pony: The Movie also failed to meet expectations. It opened with $8.8 million in 2,528 theaters for a $3,481 per theater average. It has an A- CinemaScore like the other two openers. The animated film is based on the popular toy line from Hasbro.

My Little Pony was followed by Kingsman: The Golden Circle, American Made, The Lego Ninjago Movie, Victoria and Abdul, Flatliners and Battle of the Sexes.
