Big Hero 6 Tops Interstellar to Win Weekend Box Office

Posted on November 11, 2014

Big Hero 6 topped Interstellar to win the box office this weekend. Both films filled up theaters and had very big opening weekends. Big Hero 6 made $56.2 million and Interstellar made $47.5 million. It was a much different looking box office report than last weekend when the top films barely edged over the $10 million mark.

The success of Big Hero 6 means Disney's toy line should be a holiday hit. Whether the film can go on to become another Frozen remains to be seen. It will be difficult to repeat that kind of success. The Interstellar hit means Matthew McConaughey's career remains on fire. It also means director Christopher Nolan can continue to make the films he wants to make.

Gone Girl continues to refuse to slip much from its performance in the previous weekend. The film fell just 26.8% from last weekend and added another $6.2 million to its total gross during its 6th weekend in theaters. It has now made over $145 million in the U.S. Gone Girl was followed by Ouija, which made $5.8 million and Fury, which made $5.6 million.

Fury was followed by St. Vincent, Nightcrawler, John Wick and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day . You can view the box office chart for the weekend here.
