Trailer for Automata Starring Antonio Banderas and Dylan McDermott
Posted on August 22, 2014
The trailer for Automata has dropped and it looks amazing. The sf thriller by Spanish director Gabe Ibanez stars Antonio Banderas, Dylan McDermott, Birgitte Hjort Sorensen, Melanie Griffith and Robert Forster.
The year is 2044 and robots are everywhere. Taking a cue from Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, the film lays out the three rules that govern robotics in the future, including commands to stop robots from ever hurting humans, not to alter themselves, and not to alter other robots. Looks like those rules are about to get broken.
Antonio plays Jacq Vaucan, an insurance agent for the ROC robotics corporation. Like Decker in Philip K. Dick's short story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" (which became the film Blade Runner), Vaucan looks into violations of the robotic laws. What he finds could change the world forever.
The material has certainly been covered before, but we really like the trailer. The look is interesting and so are the characters. Antonio's estranged wife, Melanie Griffith, co-stars in the film. It's not clear how the press tour will go. Maybe they'll each take different premiere cities to avoid any awkward red carpet moments.
The film hits theaters October 10, 2014. Take a look:
