Ant-Man Tops Weekend Box Office

Marvel's Ant-Man topped the box office this weekend. The film stars Paul Rudd as the superhero capable of shrinking in size. Ant-Man had a $58 million opening. The film has an A CinemaScore.
Minions was not far behind Ant-Man with a $50 million second weekend. The animated film has made $217 million in the U.S. after just two weekends in theaters. It has made over $625 million worldwide.
Minions was followed by Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer. This was a strong opening for the R-rated comedy from Judd Apatow. Trainwreck also stars Bill Hader, Brie Larson and Colin Quinn. Variety says the hit film puts Schumer on Hollywood's A-List. The film has an A- CinemaScore.
Trainwreck was followed by Inside Out, Jurassic World, Terminator: Genisys, Magic Mike XLL and The Gallows. Jurassic World has now climbed passed the $600 million mark to a total domestic gross of $611 million. The puts it just $12 million behind Marvel's The Avengers which holds the third spot on the list of top grossing films in the U.S.
Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellen as Sherlock Holmes, opened in limited release this weekend. It made about $2.5 million in 363 theaters. You can view the box office chart for the weekend here. Pixels, Paper Towns and Southpaw arrive in theaters this coming weekend.
