Another Starship Troopers Film in the Works

Posted on December 2, 2006

Are the nasty space bugs coming back again? Moviehole talked to director Ed Neumeier who says are plans for a third Starship Troopers film.

"Looks like - fingers crossed - Sony is moving forward", Neumeier, who will write & direct the film, tells Moviehole. "Plans are afoot to shoot next year. Casper Van Dien will be back as Colonel John Rico. There'll be a new bug or two. Also draft riots. Religion makes a comeback. And the Federation has a new weapon."

Casper Van Dien has appeared in many low-budget science fiction movies ever since the first Starship Troopers film in 1997. At least this time he will play a colonel. The new film could end up going straight to DVD. That's what happened with Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation, which Neumeier also directed. Denise Richards would need to return for Starship Troopers 3 to avoid being a DVD-only film and that's pretty unlikely.

IMDB has a webpage for the possible future bugs film here.
