Anne Hathaway is Psychically Linked to a Kaiju in First Trailer for Colossal

The first trailer for the sf dramedy Colossal dropped and it's definitely something new and different. And funny, as well. Anne Hathaway plays Gloria, a young woman who has just been dumped by her boyfriend. Devastated, she moves back to her hometown and begins drinking heavily. When a Godzilla-like creature (a kaiju) starts terrorizing Seoul, Korea, Gloria is horrified, as is the rest of the world. But it gets worse.

It turns out that Gloria is actually controlling the kaiju through a psychic connection. When she gets drunk and stumbles around, the kaiju does the same. When she crashes into things, it does too. If she dances, it dances. Now she must try to get control of her binge drinking or the kaiju will lay waste to everything in its path.

Unfortunately, Gloria does not have much self control and the men in her life, played by Dan Stevens, Jason Sudeikis and Tim Blake Nelson, are no help whatsoever. The film was written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, and will hit theaters on April 7, 2017. They had us at kaiju, we're in.
