Andrew Lincoln to Star in AMC's The Waking Dead

AMC recently greenlit The Walking Dead, a six-episode series based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer.

The Hollywood Reporter says Andrew Lincoln as the lead in thes zombie apocalypse thriller. Actor Jon Bernthal will portray another character.

The Walking Dead begins production in June in Atlanta with six, one-hour episodes for season one. The series is set to premiere in October 2010 during AMC's Fearfest, formerly known as MonsterFest.

Update: Here is the poster for the new series and it is stunning. A guy with a gun on a horse in traveling down an empty five lane highway. The highway in the opposite direction is full of broken down cars. The series will begin on Halloween, October 31st.
