American Sniper Dominates Box Office While Mortdecai Flops

American Sniper easily dominated the box office this weekend. It had a huge record second weekend in theaters following its monster opening last weekend. The film made $64 million to bring its box office gross to $200 million. It fell just 27.9% from the previous week. The image above shows Sienna Miller who plays Taya Kyle in the movie.

American Sniper was followed by The Boy Next Door starring Jennifer Lopez and Ryan Guzman. The film had a solid debut and made $15 million. JLo was everywhere promoting the movie to help ensure its success.

The Boy Next Door was followed by Paddington which had a sold second weekend in theaters and made $12.4 million. It was followed by The Wedding Ringer, Taken 3 and The Imitation Game.

Strange Magic, an animation from Lucasfilm did not have a good opening. It opened in 7th and made just $5.5 million during its opening weekend. Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp, also failed to deliver in theaters. It made just $4.1 million with a weak $1,558 per theater average during its opening weekend. By comparison The Boy Next Door made $5,765 per theater and American Sniper made $17,327 per theater.
