Adele's Album 25 Sold Over 7 Million Units in 2015

Singer Adele dominated the album charts for 2015. Her album 25 sold over 7.4 million units despite being released late in the year. The release date was November 20th.

Adele easily topped the second biggest album of the year, which is Taylor Swift's 1989, which sold about 2 million copies in 2015. However most of Taylor's 1989 sales came in 2014. Taylor's album has total sales over 5 million. The two female artists have been dominated the sales charts and they are proving that album sales are not dead. The L.A. Times notes that Adele's album was withheld from streaming services, so it remains to be seen what impact streaming will have on album sales.

Adele's 25 also generated huge sales during its release week. It sold 3.3 million units which broke the former record held by Nsync's No Strings Attached. Nsynch sold 2.4 million copies of its hit album during its release week in 2000.
