3D Lion King Wins Weekend Box Office

The Lion King returned to the box office in a new 3D format and won the weekend box office. The 3D version of the 1994 Disney film brought in $29.3 million, which is more than most new films make. Contagion had a strong second weekend, falling just 35% from its opening weekend. It has now made $44.1 million. Drive, a Ryan Gosling thriller, opened in third place and made $11 million. Drive was followed by The Help, which added $6.4 million to its total that is approaching the $150 million mark.

Two other opening films did not fare well. Straw Dogs made just $5 million and came in fifth. Sarah Jessica Parker's comedy, I Don't Know How She Does It, made just $4.5 million and came in sixth. You can see the complete box office report on boxofficemojo.com. Take a look:
