Posted on March 9, 2014
300: Rise of an Empire easily won the weekend box office with a $45 million take. The sequel had a strong $12,983 per theater average. The opening was very big, but not as enormous at the $70 million opening for 300 in 2007.
The 300 sequel was followed by Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which also had a big $32.5 million opening. The animal film from DreamWorks Animation features the voices of Ty Burrell, Max Charles and Stephen Colbert.
Mr. Peabody & Sherman was followed by Non-Stop, The Lego Movie, Son of God and The Monuments Men. 12 Years a Slave was up on an Oscar bump and made $2.2 million during its 21st weekend in theaters. Frozen continues to slowly make its way to $400 million. It made another $3 million this weekend to put its box office gross at $393 million.
