Posted on June 18, 2014
22 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Johah Hill, won the box office this weekend with a $57 million opening. This is a huge opening for an R-rated film. 22 Jump Street also managed to stay about $8 million ahead of How to Train Your Dragon 2, which also had a big $49 million opening.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 may have lost some of its box office dollars to Maleficent, which had an impressive third weekend in theaters. Maleficent took in another $18.5 million and has now made $163 million after three weekends. Edge of Tomorrow had a good second weekend in theaters after being beat by The Fault in Our Stars during its opening weekend. The science fiction thriller has great reviews. It made $16.5 million and was followed by The Fault in Our Stars, which made $14.8 million.
The Fault in Our Stars was followed by X-Men: Days of Future Past, which finished sixth and climbed over the $200 million total gross mark. X-Men was followed by Godzilla, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Neighbors, Chef and Blended. You can view the box office chart here.
